This is a game that me and my supervisor made for a lesson based on newspaper adverts. Credit goes to Hara Mitsuhiro, but he will tell you that it was inspired by my Hallowe'en-Guy Fawkes game (see related lessons).

Using Friday/Saturday's The Daily Yomiura newspaper, we took copies of the Movie schedule page. This has the times for films in many cinemas in Tokyo, divided by area. Using this, I created 5 little stories (and chose the best film for each) and typed them onto a A5-sized card (see: Movies activity.doc for the idea - new stories would need to be made depending on the films for that day)

In class, the students were split into groups of 5 students. Each group had a card with the stories on them and two copies of the newspaper page. The object of the game is to select the best film, cinema and time to fit the story. When the group has finished, they must check with a teacher and if one answer is even slightly, they must go back to correct it.

The first group with the correct answers wins.

This was so successful, we did it twice in one lesson (with the second set of stories).
